Milind Kumar how was your 2019 season?
The 2019 season was great. The Frosh/Soph team fought hard the whole season and we were able to go 6-3. It was my first year playing football and it was a great experience. It was tough at first since I had no experience at all but I learned quick and played well. Playing the game was so much fun. I was able to learn a lot about the sport and many other lessons. I had a great time during the 2019 season.
What was one of your favorite memories in 2019?
A favorite memory of mine was probably when we beat Fremd on Homecoming. We were able to beat them by a large margin too. The offensive line got recognized for that game and the coaches gave us the team's Game Ball for that week to sign. It was a good win for us that day.
What should college coaches know about you?
I don't like to be comfortable. This means I am never satisfied with my current level and constantly trying to get better and reach the next step. I always give my 100% in practice, during games, and workouts to get better and get to that next step. Everything I do is with my full effort. I play with violent strikes and I finish every play through the echo of the whistle and don't stop until then. This is also the same with my academics. I challenge myself by taking multiple AP and Honors classes so I can learn more and be better.
How does Schaumburg look for 2020?
Schaumburg is looking good, coming up with new offensive and defensive schemes. Us sophomores are also a very committed class and we are working super hard to change things next year as juniors. The team is coming closer together and a strong bond is being created. This will translate to how we perform on the field this season and it will be clearly seen that we are a strong team.
What does football mean to you?
I didn't grow up watching football. My family was never aware of the game since my parents didn't grow up in the United States. I know many people grow up watching it with their dads and siblings and during the game there are feelings of excitement, joy, heartbreak, and anger. I don't have a very deep connection with football because of this. But when I played the game in my Sophomore Season, I started to understand why this game is highly respected. I haven't been with the game too long so a super deep meaning/connection hasn't been made yet. But I connected with the game quick. In the game, all of the players are a family. In football a bond is created that can't compare to anything else. The game in short means family to me. Especially being part of the Offensive Line and being the backbone of the team's offense, I understood we are all dependent on each other on the field. Everyone on the field fights together to win. Also this is the only sport I have played where someone gets knocked down and makes the decision themselves to get back up again and keep playing. Not only through this aspect, but Football builds character in many ways. In football we are a family, getting tougher with our brothers, and growing as a person. Teamwork, Perseverance, Setting Goals, Dealing with Success and Failure are all things that you learn from football. To me this is the best sport that was ever created because of these reasons. The best choice I ever made in my life was to join the Football team in my Sophomore year. There is no doubt about this.
What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field?
My confidence is my strongest trait. I don't let my mind create barriers and let it affect my performance. If I mess up on a play I don't let that determine how the rest of the game will go for me. I learn quickly and I forget and move on. This lets me play football at the highest level I can. My size and strength is there too but I can't fully utilize it without my strong confidence and strong mind.
Who else on the team should I be on the lookout for?
Cole Teschner who was our QB. He is in the class of 2023 and he was a good leader on the team. This past season he had 26 passing touchdowns, 2700 passing yards, and 6 interceptions.
