Jackson Wiegold Class of 2021 Linebacker Vernon Hills 6'2 210

CBP: Jackson Wiegold how was your 2019 season?

JACKSON: I think it was a definite breakout season for both myself and Cougar Football after two losing seasons. We were able to bounce back as a team. Our offense was consistently able to produce for us. As our defensive team lead, I was very proud on the way we flowed to the ball and shut offenses down. Setting the school record for the least amount of points allowed in a season was pretty cool.

What does football mean to you?

I’ve been playing football since I was 8. It’s the best sport that’s ever been created. It means a squad of guys, all working together to achieve one common goal, to win. The energy of gameday, the relationship between the players, the coaches, the fans - it is unlike any other sport. It is my passion and a privilege -- I don’t take it lightly; I appreciate its values.

What should college coaches know about you?

They should know that I’m an extremely hard worker and am self motivated. Playing football in college is my dream and my goal. I’ve been working for this relentlessly for a long time. They should know that I am a leader and I can rally my team when things are tough whether that means making a big play when it counts or giving them a needed talk. They should also know I’m very coachable and can adapt to different schemes and ideas and I pick up things quickly, as I was able to command the Cougars defense as a sophomore after only a summer of work.

How does Vernon Hills look for 2020?

We are all extremely excited. Our offense is looking to pick up where it left off returning key guys like matchup nightmare Justin Morris, rising junior Jake Pieper, and our stud running back Ryan Mann who would have broke school and conference records, and made the all state team barring injury. On the other side of the ball we are returning 9 starters and 6 of our front 7 which gave teams fits last year. We all just can’t wait to get back on the field and dominate our conference next year.

What goal do you have for yourself for upcoming season?

My goal for myself is to break the school record for the most tackles in a single season. I’m also going to continue to work hard to try and make the All-State team. I want to be one of the guys that teams have to constantly pay attention to. With the size I’ve put on it’s going to be difficult to block me one on one, and any double team would leave another one of my teammates to make a play. It’s going to be hard for teams to game plan for such an aggressive, sound defense. Our team looks to absolutely dominate our opponents next year. 2020 is going to show some of the best Cougar Football people have seen since the 2016 state run.
