Thomas Shipman Class of 2022 Niles Notre Dame OL 6'5 270

CBP: Thomas Shipman how was your 2019 season?

THOMAS SHIPMAN:

For me personally the 2019 season was a huge personal accomplishment because I had the opportunity to be brought up to our varsity football team as a sophomore. From a team aspect we had a very successful season with a record of 8-3 with one of our toughest schedules for NDCP football. Our team called ourselves the “road warriors” with a IHSA 8A second round appearance. The season ended with a sour taste in our mouth, making us more hungry and working harder for our upcoming 2020 season.

What do you like about playing in the trenches?

I love playing in trenches because I know that up on the line of scrimmage is where games are won and lost. Playing in the trenches is arguably the hardest and most physical position on the field because you always need to adjust according to the front and play. This is something that I love because the next play is always different. Us lineman never get any glory which is alright, because we know that we actually are the foundation of our team.

What should college coaches know about you?

All college coaches should know that I will never be outworked on the field or in the classroom. I always give my absolute best effort to not only benefit myself but my team. I am constantly finding new ways to challenge and improve myself. I use constructive criticism as an opportunity to grow and learn more about my position and football.

How does Notre Dame look for 2020?

The 2020 Notre Dame football team is looking to continue our winning ways from last year. Our offense and defense has many returning starters from our previous season that will provide us with leadership throughout the year. With another tough schedule for the 2020 season we are looking to have another successful season that will lead us to another conference title and further through the playoffs.

What does football mean to you?

Football to me is not only a sport that you learn only about football, but you will always gain life knowledge. You learn how to be disciplined and responsible by waking up for the 6 A.M runs, or staying after school for workouts all by yourself. By playing football I think that I realized what it means to be a part of a team and that everything you do on and off the field no matter what happens you are always a team. Football helps me realize that you always give your best effort, but you win as a team and lose as a team.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the field?

One thing that makes me stand out on the field is that I always play to the whistle. If we are up by 30, I will play to the whistle. If we are down by 30, I will play to the whistle. I do this to better myself and team. The way that I see it is why should I not take advantage of reps and practice that I can get, while I could be giving it my all and be getting better for the next play and game which will only help me in the long run.
