Coach Big Pete: Will Benish how was your 2019 season?
Will Benish: My 2019 season I think went well. I think I showed what I can do on the field, but I know I’ve got to work a lot in the off-season to be ready for next year. As a team we started off hot at 6-0, but towards the end of the season we weren’t able to get the job done. It’s all about bouncing back next year though.
What do you like about playing on the defense?
I like that defense is all about being physical as well as being smart. A huge part of playing defense is understanding formations, and reading the offense. If you play smart on defense, it’ll put you in a position to make the play.
What should college coaches know about you?
College coaches should know that I’m a hardworking, smart player who will work all year long to make myself better. I’ll continue to improve as a player everyday. I'll do whatever I can to help my team be successful.
What is one thing you are trying to improve in the offseason?
I’m trying to get stronger. I know that if I put in the work in the weight room, it will translate onto the field next season. I’m also trying to improve my aggressiveness at the line of scrimmage, so I can try to set the tone for the defense next year.
How does this Benet squad look for 2020?
I’m really excited for next season. We have a ton of talent, and plenty of young guys that are willing to put in that extra work in order to be successful next year. Everyone seems to be bought in already.
Who else on Benet should I keep an eye out for in 2020?
In the 2021 class, there are two guys that I know are going to have a huge impact. Nick Bafia is a fantastic athlete, and will be making plays all over the field. D-Tackle Michael Manning will also be a big part of our defense. Two young guys that stand out to me are Pierce Walsh and John Weidenbach in the 2023 class. Both had a lot of varsity playing time this year, and have a lot to prove for next year.
