Meet St. Viator's WR/TE 6'4 Joe Laterza Class Of 2021

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for lllinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Joe Laterza Class of 2021 WR/TE/LS 6'4 195

Joe Laterza how was your 2019 season?

My team had a heartbreak of a season. We ended up 4-5 when in the last game, we lost on a last second 2-point conversion attempt. We worked so hard in the offseason to get where we were but in the end we didn’t make the playoffs. I personally was very happy with how my season went. No one really thought I would be much of a factor in the team this year, but despite what others thought, I ended up starting at Wide Reciever and I had a very good year—thanks to my coach and my QBs believing in me.

What was one of your favorite memories this season?

We were playing Marian Central Catholic on Homecoming, we had an early lead that we let up in the second half. We ended up going into overtime, and after we scored, we held them to 4th down on about the 10 yard line. The sideline was filled to the brim with excitement. On the last play, the QB rolled right, dumped the ball off to a reciever, and on the 5 yard line, our safety Owen Hickey wrapped him up and stopped him for the overtime win. The environment was electric.

What schools have you talked to so far?

I’ve spoken over twitter DMs and emails to Havard, Augustana, Olivet Nazarene, and the University of Chicago.

What should college coaches know about you?

I would want them to know that I have heart, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about how much I love this sport and how I will get better.

What are your winter plans?

On top of the regular football offseason lifts, I plan on getting extra strength, speed, and agility work in over the offseason. I also plan on playing in a 7 on 7 league and participating in Winter Track to work on my speed.
