Jacob Waskow Canton Class of 2020 LB/ER 6'4 225

Jacob Waskow how was your 2018 season?

As a team it was a struggle we only won 1 game. We are the smallest school in the Mid-Illini Conference and we took our lumps. We are a Small 4A school playing mainly larger quality 5A, 6A, and 7A programs. Individually I had a really good year. I led the team in tackles from the defensive end position in my first year playing that position. Additionally I played offensive tackle. I was a Wrestling State Qualifier in 2A at 220# and Placed 9th in the Discus in 2A Track.

How has your college camp season been?

It’s been a long grind. Summer Camps I have been to include; Lindenwood Mega, Concordia Chicago Mega, Northwestern Showcase, UIndy Mega & Olivet Nazarene Prospect camp for football. I have a few more Prospect camps lined up. Currently headed to Orlando FL for a week to wrestle in the AAU Disney Duals. It’s been a productive break. While still lifting and working out. I think coaches are taking notice.

What should college coaches know about you?

I’m an athlete - I am a multiple sport athlete: football, wrestling, and track. I play multiple positions on my football team: offense and defense. I’m a grinder who works to get better and will never be a problem. I’m the youngest of 5 kids and my family has academic standards. I don’t make mental mistakes. I’m very focused.

How was your wrestling season?

Kind of interesting: I was a state qualifier at 220# 2A but with a month to go in the season I suffered a sever sinus infection that went through the end of the season. I had to have sinus surgery after the season ended because the infection was so bad. I beat a lot of really good wrestlers with that sinus infection festering. It’s hard to wrestle when you can’t breathe and your face swells up.

What would you tell football players on the fence about wrestling for this winter?

Don’t get caught up in the whole you have to cut weight thing. It is the best workout you can get. Wrestlers are athletes. There is something special walking out and knowing it is you vs someone - one on one. You win or you lose - there is no hiding.

What goal do you have for yourself this season?

My goal is to be respected by the teams we play as someone they need to account for. I want to make the playoffs and be respected. I want to hear my coaches yelling great block on offense and great tackle on defense. The Canton Little Giants will be strong and play hard to the whistle. When the fans walk out of the stadium, I want them to say they saw a great game.
