Don Volante Class of 2020 Lake Zurich 6'4 175 ATH

Don Volante how was your 2018 season?

My season went fairly well. I played WR for the first time as I usually play QB. I learned so much from the receiver position from that year carrying into the offseason. Going into this year’s summer camp I plan to play QB & WR which really gives me a better perspective of the offense playing two positions.

How does it feel to know that you can play multiple positions when asked to?

I think being versatile is extremely helpful to me and my team. I play LS as well and college coaches I’ve spoke to see it as a huge advantage to play three positions. If playing multiple positions helps make my team win, then I’m all for it!

How has your college camp season been?

It’s been going in the right direction. Not only preforming in front of these coaches, but speaking and creating relationships is what I value in these camps. The showcases/camps I have attended I have always walked out feeling confident with how I preformed and the conversations I’ve had with other coaches. I’ve continually been in contact from coaches from the states of Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, Indiana, etc.

What should college coaches know about you?

I am an unselfish leader. That I am coachable and willing to be flexible for the betterment of the team. I always remain humble and give all the glory to God. Win or lose the glory goes to Him, and I thank Him everyday for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love.

First impressions of new Head Coach Planz?

I love that he comes from college coaching. Since he’s been there, I feel he knows what it will take to go to the next level and I trust he will help me get there. Not only will I ‘trust the process.’ I will “attack the process” as we like to put it. From what I’ve heard so far, he is big on mental toughness and discipline which I appreciate and love in the game of football. I thank coach Mertens for teaching us discipline. That was the last thing I said to him when he announced his resignation was, “Thank you for teaching me true discipline and dedication.” Going into my senior year, I will carry that into this season and push the younger players to that golden standard that all of my coaches put us to.

What goal do you have for yourself this season?

I like to break things down weekly and not get too caught up in the overview of the season. Although, in terms of the big picture as a team “We Will Succeed” and win that State Championship game. For as myself, week one I want to be on the field starting whether that be QB or WR (as well as LS) I’m happy with either or. Contributing every Friday from the first to last snap of the game. Each game destroying every single opponent we face up and through that 14th game of the year when we are pronounced state champions. In terms of college offers, my goal is to pursue as many offers as I can. From where I will receive them is unknown. I pray my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will lead me in the right direction and whatever His will for me is I am happy with.
