Chad Gerig Stillman Valley Class of 2021 QB 6'0 175
Chad Gerig how was your 2018 season?
Overall, my 2018 season was a great growing year. I lead my JV team to a 9-0 record as well as helping out varsity to a 7-4 record.
Favorite memory of 2018?
My favorite memory would have actually occurred prior to our season. Our school team participated in a spring 7v7 league in Lake Barrington. The very first opponent we played questioned, “Why is Stillman Valley in here all they know how to do is run the ball they don’t know how to throw.” That game we proceeded to beat them 40-0.
How does Stillman Valley look this season?
We have a number of seniors returning this year along with a strong Junior class. We should be in the hunt for the conference title. We have high expectations by making it deep into the playoffs. Majority of our players are either in a sport or are in the gym working on strength and agility training.
What should college coaches know about you?
I model my game after Russel Wilson. I have good down field vision, while also being able to extend plays while having the threat to run as well as throw. Off the field I love studying film, working out in the weight room and working harder to be an overall better athlete and person
What game are most excited about this season?
Byron- they are our arch rival as well as the runner up from the 2018 class 3A State Champions. Post season I’d love the opportunity to play Immaculate Conception or Rochester. Those are two quality programs and would allows us to gage where our program is at or where it should be.
What part of your game have you been trying to improve in the offseason?
Strength, post snap coverage recognition and quicker release. I have been working out with Tim Bailey at Mercyhealth Top Performers for strength. Tom Nelson with TNT in Mount Prospect for coverages and schemes. As well as Throw It Deep with Jeff Christianson for throwing mechanics and quicker release.
Who on Stillman Valley should I be on the lookout for this upcoming season?
We have a number of good players. Trae Varney anchors in our offensive and defensive line. Joe Kuthe is a very speedy and talented wide receiver who has also been training with me at Top Performers and TNT.
What goal do you have for yourself this upcoming season?
To maintain my 3.84 GPA as well as being our team leader. I know this is a very bold statement but, to get our team back to a State Championship game. My brother was on the 2013 Championship team and my sister on the 2012 Girls 3rd Place basketball team. The energy State runs bring to small communities like ours pulls everyone together and allows us as players to have a direct impact and example for the Elementary and Jr. High kids in our community.
