Payton Collins how was your 2018 season?

The 2018 season was a rough one for us, but I would not have changed it for anything else. To me, the times I spent with my teammates grinding in the weight room, pushing each other on the practice field, and hanging out outside of school, were times that I enjoyed and wish I could have back. Last year is in the past and we’re all hungry for the upcoming season. It’s been a long ride, and I wanna be able to go out this last season proud of what we accomplished throughout the years.

Favorite memory from last season?

My favorite memory from last season is our first game of the season. We were fortunate enough to be able to play in the Kickoff Classic against our rival, Providence. Playing on NIU’s field was an experience that I won’t forget.

What excites you the most about this upcoming season?

I’m most excited for meeting and working with our new coaching staff. I’ve got high expectations for this upcoming season and I’m sure they do as well, I can’t wait. I’m also excited to be able to play with my good friends for one last season.

What schools have talked to you so far?

I’ve been able to talk with a few schools so far. Including Western Michigan, Illinois State, and Minnesota State Moorhead. I’ve also briefly talked with coaches from Harvard, University of North Dakota, Miami Ohio and Drake University. It’s an exciting process and I’m glad that I’ve been getting help from my coaches and parents.

What should college coaches know about you?

I’m a hard worker on the field and also off the field. Whenever I’m doing anything, I’m always trying to do my best. Whether that be working to improve myself in the weight room, studying for my next test, or even getting all my chores done. I’m a competitive guy. I have an older brother and ever since we were young, we competed over every little thing. I think that’s what helped me become the competitive person I am today.

What does your summer college camp schedule look like?

Open right now, I’m currently focusing on balancing my varsity baseball season and schoolwork. I’ve talked with my coaches and parents, and I have a lot of college camps I’m hoping to sign up for. I definitely want to go to a few this summer so I can prove myself.
