Alex Carrillo how was your 2018 season?
2018 season went very well, the whole season we went through a lot of adversity as a team. We all still had that pain of regret when we lost in the state championship to Prairie ridge in 2017. So all season we were working hard to make sure we didn’t feel that regret again, and we stayed focused and patient all year. Felt good to get the job done and win the 7A state championship. Personally I’ve been blessed to start at Safety for Naz and play running back since sophomore year, my 2018 season went very well but definitely a lot to improve on personally.
So what schools have you been talking to?
I’ve just started the process, I’ve visited Eastern Kentucky and Southern Illinois. Other schools I’ve talked to are Drake, South Dakota, Indiana State and more. My options are opened to any schools interested.
What should college coaches know about you?
Most coaches will think I’m undersized and “too small” but I know I can play at the next level. I’m not afraid to compete against anyone. I may not have the “size” but I’m confident that I will outwork anyone that is in front of me or behind me.
What do you think the biggest misconception about Nazareth football from outsiders is?
I believe most people have a misconception on Nazareth football since Nazareth has been so successful recently many people say it’s the recruiting out of the area and that we get kids from all over but the reality is, coach Racki is an amazing coach along with the rest of our coaching staff that give us everything we need to be successful.
What position do you feel most comfortable in?
I’ve always felt most comfortable playing Free Safety and just being able to recognize and evaluate the whole field but I’m comfortable at any defensive back position. Offensively I’m very comfortable at running back, I might not have the size, but I feel like I can see things back there that others can’t. The way I run is different and I feel confident with my vision.
What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason?
This offseason, mostly all speed and technique. With my size, speed is crucial and I feel once I get my speed up, then all parts of my game will improve.
What is one thing that makes you proud to be a roadrunner football player?
What makes me proud to be a roadrunner is the whole family aspect of our football team, the bonds I’ve grown with my brothers make it so much easier to play with come Friday nights. The support from our families and coaches is incredible and it’s a privilege to be on Nazareth football. I’m very proud to be apart of this family.
