Talking With One Of Top Punters In The Nation Lake Forest's Kai Kroeger Class Of 2020 About The

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for lllinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Kai Kroeger Class of 2020 Lake Forest Punter/QB

Kai Kroeger how was your 2018 season?

It was a really good year. I had 55 total punts, 20 inside the 20, a long of 67, and averaged just over 40 yards. I won north suburban conference special teams player of the year, I made the lake county news-sun all area team as well as pioneer press all area team

What schools have you talked with so far?

LSU, Penn State, Indiana, Minnesota, South Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Syracuse, Washington state, Texas A&M, Illinois, UW Stevens-Point

What should college coaches know about you?

I am very focused and dedicated. I set goals and work my hardest to achieve them. I am very loyal for my team and I work hard to support the players and people around me in any way I can. I have big dreams and I have every intention on pursuing those dreams to the best of my ability.

So how does Lake Forest look for this upcoming 2019 season?

We achieved some incredible milestones last year with on the road wins against Libertyville, Lake Zurich, and Stevenson. All of us are psyched and ready to take on the lineup this season. We know we have an excellent group of upcoming juniors to add to the varsity team and think that our 2019 varsity group is going to be really exciting.

What is the most exciting part of punting a football for you?

When we are backed up inside our 20 or so and I know we need to get the ball as far away as possible. When I get a great snap and I can unleash and hit the ball as high and far as I can. It’s definitely a great feeling when I drop the ball and it doesn’t move at all so I know it’s going to be a good hit, and then looking up and seeing it fly down the field.

What was one of your worse punts?

One of my worst punts was against Philips this past year. The defender came off the ball quick and got to me pretty fast. The ball came off the side of my foot and it only went a short distance.

What one of the biggest misconceptions about punting?

Punting is a lot like golf. There are a lot of very small but critical adjustments and techniques involved in getting the ball off, getting height, and getting it to turn over. There are also styles of punts that you can learn as you get better at it. So I think the biggest misconception is that it’s just kicking the ball as hard as you can to get it down the field.

Who are some of the Lake Forest players I should keep an eye out for?

Our Long snapper current junior Sam Volpe, Linebacker/running back current sophomore Mac Uhlein, current junior offensive lineman Jack Owen, and current junior outside linebacker/tight end Jai Williams.
