Cole Watkins Washington Class of 2020 RB/DB/LB 5'10 165

Cole Watkins how was your 2018 season?

It was a great year. I loved competing with my team. Everyone out there had a hunger to win. I was moved around a lot on defense either playing SS or Outside Linebacker. Our defense was LOCKDOWN pretty much the whole year. I was able to get my shots at the quarterback almost every game because Coach Stevens would blitz me off the edge because of my speed and acceleration. Coach Stevens used me very well. Offense I was behind Senior Sam Walter who ended up setting the setting the school touchdown record. I still got my carries and was not upset about not starting on O. I did whatever they needed me to do. Special teams was super fun this year as well. I blocked 5-6 kicks. Including one punt block I scooped for a touchdown. I was also a kick returner. All in all we worked our tails off, we came up short of our goal but I will love all my brothers forever.

Favorite memory that season?

Definitely gotta be the game winning Hail Mary touchdown we had against Sacred Heart Griffin. Everyone’s emotions were flying! The fans rushed the field. Our players and coaches were ecstatic. Gotta be my favorite memory of my LIFE.

What does Washington football mean to you?

Everything, as a Freshman I was able to play up on Varsity and that’s when I truly realized how amazing this town is. The fans will go to every game no matter how cold or rainy. Every summer we have to be at the field at 6 am to get our workouts in 5 days a week. Playing for Washington is a blessing!

What game are most looking forward to this upcoming season?

I heard there’s a chance we get Providence Catholic as one of the first games of the season. I would love for that test, because we are losing our seniors and I know people are going to be doubting us this year. If we don’t get to play them then definitely Metamora. Those games are always exciting. The rivalry between our schools is intense! Every one of those games is insane. Both towns are on each sideline and we battle it out.

What should college coaches know about you?

I’m a guy that will step up no matter what. If you put me out on starting O or put me out on special teams it doesn’t matter I will give 110% every time. I love the sport. The feeling you get when you make a big play. I live for that.

Who are some Washington players I should keep an eye out for this upcoming season?

Me, Rylan Mcqueary WR/DB, Brady Klein QB/DB, Kennedy Koehl OL, Max Eccles DE/LB, Timmy Malinowski LB/FB, Jesse Williams FB/DT

Class of 2020 has only lost 1 game playing together.

What goal do you have for yourself this upcoming season?

I was voted an off-season captain by my team and I really just want to lead them and get us all ready for this year. We got a ways to go and work to do. I want to go out with a bang so I’m going to have us working!
