Kivonte Houston how was your 2018 season?
My 2018 season was great, We ended the season 11-2 and 7-0 in conference. Personally, I’ve developed a vital football IQ and gained a lot of experience from this season. Although, there is always room to improve and that’s what I’m doing this off-season.
Favorite memory from last season?
My favorite memory hands down was the quarter final game against Homewood-Flossmoor. I had a interception in the third quarter that gave us a lot of momentum and sealed the game for us.
What does football mean to you?
Football plays an important role in my life. Over the years, it has taught me valuable lessons and instilled positive character traits that I use on and off the field. I’ve loved playing the sport since the first time I picked up a football and I don’t see that passion for the game changing anytime soon.
What excites you about this upcoming Marist season?
A lot of things excite me about this upcoming season. The biggest, is our schedule. I know for a fact we have one of the hardest schedules in the state, my teammates and I embrace the opportunity. We want to show the state that the Marist Football Program is elite.
Toughest WR you went up against last season?
I played a lot of tough wide receivers throughout the season. Although I would say Sam Jackson was the toughest. He is a shifty receiver with a high motor and is a very competitive player.
What would you like college coaches to know about you?
I would like coaches to know that I have a humble personality and growth mindset. I’m a player that perseveres through adversity and is a firm believer in hard work, nothing that I’ve earned in my high school football career was ever handed to me. I also work hard in the classroom to ensure that I’m a successful student-athlete.
What goal do you have for yourself this upcoming season?
Overall, my main goal is to become the best teammate I can be. Which means I’m focusing on tasks that will improve my athletic and fundamental abilities. As well as adopting a role as a positive and influential leader on our team. This will be my last season of high school football. If I can be a successful role model to younger and future players to come to the Marist program. Showing them our focus on “The process” is real. And accomplish the ultimate goal of a state championship with my brothers. I will have met all of my goals.
