Meet St. Viator's WR Owen Hickey Class Of 2020 Recruit That You Need To Know

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Owen Hickey Class of 2020 St.Viator 6'3 170 WR

Owen Hickey how was your season?

My junior season was great, we didn’t win as many games as we had hoped or expected to, but I think it was a great learning experience and wake up call to us juniors, proving we have to take the offseason much more seriously. We are really trying to stress throughout our program and to our younger guys how important the offseason really is. From a personal standpoint, I believe I made the jump from sophomore football to varsity football very well as the seniors took me in from day 1 and really helped me along. Especially being the only starting junior receiver, the seniors really helped me progress, and buy into this program. This is something that I hope to do with all of the underclass men or seniors that step up and get their opportunity this upcoming season.

Favorite memory from this season?

My favorite memory from this season was definitely playing vs. Prospect week 1. There was a lot of hype around the game, which comes with the rivalry. The feeling of taking the field that night makes me crave that experience back, and our team knows how important this first game is next season for our confidence throughout the year

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I would like colleges to know that this game is passion and I would love to be given the opportunity to play at the next level. Also I would like coaches to know that I am not done growing. I’m currently 6’3 and much taller than my brother was at this age and he’s now 6’6. My dad is 6’5, and I just know I have to be patient because we’re late bloomers.

What do you plan on working on in the offseason to get you ready for next season?

Putting on weight and muscle is something I’ve really been working hard for this offseason. I’m also working to improve my footwork and sharpening up my cuts.

What does football mean to you?

Football is my passion, it’s just so natural and isn’t like any other sport. It’s unique compared to my other sports (baseball and basketball). There’s nothing like the family you create over time with your team. The team aspect of football is unlike no other, because of how many people need to execute their jobs just to be successful. Football is a very big part of my life, and I hope it continues to be for as long as I can play.

Who are some St. Viator players I should look out for next season besides you?

I have a very strong connection with my quarterback Jack Mahoney, and we plan to be as lethal as we were sophomore year. Eric Adams is one heck of a line backer, being ESCC all conference as a junior. As for under class men you should look out for Jeremiah Pittman, who will end up being a 4-year varsity starter, Lucas Barisas, and Daniel Niesman.
