Deep Dish Football Playoff OT Game Of The Week Player Spotlight: Waubonsie Valley Linebacker Ryan Mu

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Ryan Mutz Class of 2020 Waubonsie Valley 6'1 190 LB

Ryan Mutz how has your season been so far?

Our season has gone pretty well this year we hit a rough patch after starting 5-0 and lost 3 weeks in a row which I believe actually benefitted us more than anything because it made us realize we had work we need to do in order to prepare us for playoffs. these past 2 weeks we have came out strong and we sitting in a pretty good spot at 7-3 heading into week 2 of playoffs against a good opponent Maine South

Favorite memory so far this season?

My favorite memory this season without a doubt is going down to Edwardsville and playing a great football team, after traveling 4 hours on a coach bus with my teammates and stopping at ISU for a tour around their sports complexes.

What do you see in this Maine South squad?

I see a group of very quick well coached disciplined kids. They have a lot of speed and offensively have a very good core of running backs and wide receivers.

What should college coaches know about you?

I feel like college coaches should know that I bring a different level of intensity to the game on friday nights and i try to spread that out onto my teammates so we all go into the game with the same positive energy I feel coaches also need to know and I feel like I also have a very high I.Q. for the game which gives me the ability to make checks to help better the team

What do you like about playing linebacker?

I love the physical aspect of the position and I love the natural leadership you need to have to be able to read the offense make checks and audibles to the play to make sure the defense is in the best position possible to stop the offense

Toughest player you have gone up against?

The best player I have gone up against this year is without a doubt Bolingbooks offensive tackle John William's this kid was an unbelievable athlete he was very quick on his feet and was ridiculously strong he also was a great kid to play against he always had something positive to say to our defense and tried his best to keep his offensive teammates heads up when they were losing. but I feel like I was well prepare for this kind of athlete thanks to our offensive line at practice always going full speed and giving us in game reps at practice.

What motivates a Ryan Mutz?

I feel like my big motivations are my teammates and my coaches. My teammates at practices and games are always pushing each other to succeed and get our jobs done and are coaches are also a huge motivation because all the preparation and film watching they do especially our defensive coaches coach griff and coach genslinger who put in countless hours to make sure our team is in the best position possible. Another huge motivation is the opportunity that I have ahead of me to earn a free education at any level of college athletics to make my family proud and to relief a huge weight of their shoulders so they no longer have to worry about my college tuition.
