Deep Dish Football Game Of The Week Player Spotlight: Rochester's OL Chris Koerwitz Talks Rocket

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.

Chris Koerwitz Rochester Class of 2020 OL 6'4 280

Chris Koerwitz how has the season been for you so far?

This season has been going very well. We are 7-1 going into week 9. We can be a great team if we all play together and play selfless football. Our ultimate goal is to win the 4A state championship this year which is going to be tough because there are a lot of good teams in 4A this year.

What is your favorite memory so far this season?

My favorite memory so far this season is spending time with my friends doing the thing we love most. I've been playing football with some of my friends for 12 years now. Our team has a strong and special type of bond. We are all brothers on and off the field. We have each others back no matter what and it really changes a person and creates lifetime friends.

What do you see in this Glenwood team?

When I am watching their film I see a very good team. Glenwood is a team we have to really prepare well for. We need to execute and play at the top of our game because small mistakes could end up being the difference between winning and losing in this game.

How good is this Glenwood team?

Glenwood is a very good team this year. Their offence has been solid and very productive so far. Their defense has done a great job this year also. It's very difficult to go undefeated in the Central State Eight conference and they have beaten every team they have faced so far. This should be an exciting game to watch and a great test for us leading into the playoffs.

What do you think is a common misconception of Rochester football?

I think a common misconception of Rochester football is that we recruit players. We have never recruited players to our team. Players that have come to our school do so because their families have moved to Rochester on their own. We have never gone out trying to get students to move to Rochester. Another misconception is that we just put on a Rochester uniform and win. Being a great team takes a lot of hard work and dedication. We win because of the hard work we put in on and off the field.

What do you like about playing on the line?

Our line and myself take pride in being lineman. The feeling of making a great block so the quarterback or running back can make a big play is awesome. Playing on the line is also special to me because its the only group on the field who have to play as a unit to do well. We play 5 as 1 and it means a lot to me. It also means a lot to me because we play for one of the best o-line coach in the Midwest. Coach Nelson is a great coach who not only tells you what you are doing wrong but works drills and tells you why you are making the mistake in a way that is easy to understand and extremely helpful. He gets the best out of all of us.

What does Rochester football mean to you?

Rochester football is more than just a football team to me. Its a family. The time we spend together is insane. The players get to know the coaches and the coaches get to know the players. Being on the football team creates lifelong friends. It takes so much dedication to be a part of the Rochester football team but every part of it is worth it. Our coaches can remember every player that has played for them whether they were starters or not because they care about us. They treat us like family and that's why I love our program so much. I started playing football in Rochester in kindergarten and I couldn't imagine playing for a better program than this.

Remember Deep Dish Football Is Just Not About Recruiting But About The Love Of The Game Of Football In The IHSA
