Meet Lakes QB Chris Selig Class Of 2020 Someone You Should Know

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.

Chris Selig Lakes QB Class of 2020 6'2 195

Chris Selig tell me a little about yourself for the readers?

A few fun facts about myself are, I obviously play football, I also play basketball and baseball for Lakes. My brother is Ryan’s Selig and he is currently a freshman at Western Michigan University with a scholarship at outside linebacker. I live with my mom, my dad, and my sister Jenna who is 13. Right now I’m 6’2” and 195 pounds. I was the backup on the varsity team last year with a senior starting over me. I was also the long-snapper last year and continue to be this year. When I’m not focusing on school, football, or any other sports, I like to hang out with my friends whom most play on the football team. I also like to push myself in school and I take 4 AP classes.

How has the season been for you so far?

The season has been pretty good so far for me. At the beginning of the season I wasn’t technically starting because I was in a battle for the starting spot and we rotated in. I’d like to be undefeated but we lost our second game against Highland Park. One of our DB’s got hurt and our running back had to play for him. I ended up playing running back for the first time in my life and I thought I did pretty good. I think I had like 140 yards on 10 or so runs. Our biggest game of regular season is coming up against Antioch and I’m excited to play them and restore order after losing to them for the last 2 years.

Favorite memory so far from this season?

My favorite memory so far this season was in the first game against Deerfield. I got put in with 0.2 seconds left in the first half because the senior lost his mouth piece right before the play and he had to come out. We were losing and when I got the snap I dropped to pass, nobody was open and I saw a lane because we were on the their 8 yard line, so I tucked the ball and ran. I took it outside and dove across the pylon for a touchdown to end the half. It was the season opener and our first touchdown all season. One of our players from the side line came running all the way to endzone where I was and was yelling and congratulating me. Everyone in the student section was going wild and there is just no better feeling than that.

What do you like about playing QB?

I like to be a leader and as a QB that’s my main job. I like to be able to control the field and I don’t get nervous when the game is on the line. I just act it as if it was another play, always looking to score. I also like to play QB because one thing I absolutely love about football is I love to get physical. Most QBs run out of bounds or slide when they’re about to get hit but I’m not like that. The only time I’ll ever run out of bounds is if it’s crucial to stop the clock. I do whatever I can to get extra yards and I use my body build to my maximum capability.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I would like colleges to know about that it’s been my dream every since I first held a football that I wanted to be like my favorite QB Rob Henry. Both of my parents went to Purdue so I’ve been to a lot of their games. I used to go to their spring games and that’s where I met Rob Henry. Purdue wasn’t very good back then but I got to go up and meet Rob Henry. He was so nice and was asking me about my career in football and how I like it. It was a blast talking to him and that’s the reason I’m number 15(he wore number 15 at Purdue). I don’t know what I want to do yet when I grow up so I don’t have any colleges in mind so I am open to anything.

What does the game of football mean to you?

Football means everything to me. The other players on the team are my brothers. I share so much blood and sweat with them and I’m with all of them so much. I love every bit of football and I’m always exited to wake up at 5 in the morning to go lift weights with my brothers. To then go to school right after and get to practice with them after school. Getting to suit up and go to war on Friday nights with all of them just can’t be described in words of how much it means to me. I love football and every bit of it.

Give me a player on Lakes that college coaches should take a look at?

D’Lo Hardy no doubt. D’Lo is a senior and plays wide receiver, running back, and safety. He already broke the school record with interceptions in a season and we’re just halfway through. He also broke the school record 2 weeks ago with the most rushing touchdowns in one with with 5. Last night he got another 5 touchdowns and he’s an unbelievable athlete. He has no offers which surprises me a lot. If I have to throw a jump ball to someone to get critical yards I trust him to go up and get it every time. He’s in what we call at our school the “1,000 pound club.” It’s your bench, back squat, and power clean max added up to get to 1,000 or more pounds. He was the first to get it this year and he is just an amazing athlete.
