Talking With 2020 Waubonsie Valley's OL Sam Skuja About Season And Linemen Stories

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.

Sam Skuja Class Of 2020 OL 6'4 290 Waubonsie Valley

Sam Skuja how has your season been so far?

Our season has been great so far. We’ve been putting in work since December of last year in the weight room and we all busted our tails in the summer camp. So to be 5-0 it shows that all of our hard work is paying off. We still have 4 more games to play however and if we take it one game at a time we should be set for the rest of the season.

Favorite memory so far?

That would have to be beating Neuqua. It’s a huge rivalry and it was my first time facing them and I’m very happy my team and I came out with the W. However we play them again this week and if we want to beat them again we’re going to have to play our best game all year because we know they’re going to play theirs.

Any funny offensive linemen stories?

Of course. The linemen are all hilarious in their own ways but one of the funniest moments would be when we let Chris Carter play running back one during an OL vs DL drill. Just watching him attempt to stiff arm and juke the defenders made everyone laugh including our coach.

Who thinks he can be a skill player out of you linemen on Waubonsie Valley?

Nobody LOL . The only linemen that could play a skill position would be Charlie Millington. He played running back in 8th grade on our middle school football team and he’s just a big strong fast dude.

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I’m a hardworking kid. Not only am I big, fast, strong, and aggressive off the ball on the field but I get the job done off the field. I have a 3.4 GPA and this semester my goal is to finish with a 3.8 GPA or higher. I will work hard for any program that gives me the opportunity to continue playing this amazing sport at the next level.

What schools have you talked to so far?

I’ve been in contact with Drake University . The university of Massachusetts. Southern Illinois University. And on 10/20/18 I’m going on an unofficial game day visit to the University of Iowa.

Give me 2022 player that I should be on the lookout from WV?

Antonio Torres. He’s a running back and he’s on the sophomore team. He has 5-6 touchdowns on the year. I take him to school everyday and he’s one of the most respectful and nice kids there is. He’s a great athlete but more importantly he’s a better person. And I’m looking forward to playing with him next year when he’s a sophomore.
