Talking With Junior Lineman Joey Gits Waubonsie Valley About Starting Off 4-0

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.

Joey Gits Waubonsie Valley Class of 2020 6'0 230

Joey Gits Waubonsie Valley on a 4-0 run what do you guys attribute that to?

All three phases are getting it done. Our defense has only given up 38 points on the year and last week we held Edwardsville to 98 yards total. Our D-Line gets great pressure, our linebackers and corners are vicious. Our whole defense is out for blood. Our offense makes big plays and scores when they need to. And special teams has gotten us the ball back multiple times.

Done with 4 weeks of football, How good can this Waubonsie Valley team be?

Right now we’re 4 – 0 against what people were saying was one of the hardest schedules in the state. We’ve proven we can hold our own. We’re taking it one game at a time - Naperville North is next. From a defensive standpoint we’re meshing together and improving every week. Our run game is really good with Bryce Logan and DreVon Turner and we have a great receiving core with Harper Cole, Julian Cain, Myles Pettaway and Ryan Lemoine. Our QB Jack Drow has been throwing dimes. Sky’s the limit.

Who is the toughest linemen on the team to go up against?

Our tackles are Chris Carter and Sam Skuja. Because I play interior line I don’t get to go up against tackles a lot. But occasionally when I do it’s a battle. They are both big, strong and fast. Most of my reps happen guard to guard. Our guards are Cole LaPlant and Charlie Millington and our center is Kusai Contractor. They are all tough as nails and explosive off the ball. Our offensive line is solid across the board.

What should college coaches know about you?

I play very physical and mean from snap to whistle. I’m working hard in class as well and have a 3.96 GPA. I love football and want to play for as long as I can.

Funniest guy on the Waubonsie Valley team?

We all joke around a lot, but Sam Skuja is by far one of the funniest people I know.

What does the game of football mean to you?

I play football because it’s fun. I love everything about it. Practice, lifting, team meetings, hanging out with the guys, especially games.

What goal do you have for yourself for the rest of the season?

I want us to make a deep run in the playoffs. We barely missed it last year and we’re all out for vengeance.
