So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams
Matthew Guffey Cerro Gordo Class of 2019 ATH 6'0 165
Matthew Guffey what schools have you been talking to?
There is not a lot right now, i have talked to Missouri Baptist and Eureka college
What does football mean to you?
Football to me is about making a close bond with your teammates and being able to trust them and know that they will have your back in any situation you might find yourself in.
What should college coaches know about you?
I am very competitive and really hate losing
Favorite memory from last season?
I would have to say catching a touchdown in the back of the end zone as time expired in the 2nd quarter against Arcola
How does Cerro Gordo look this season?
I am very excited for this season we have a lot of returning players and lots of seniors that want to make an impact and change the culture in CGB football.
What game are you most looking forward to this season?
Our first home game on week 2 vs Selbyville is what i have been waiting for they are a bigger school than us, but most people are going to under estimate us and hopefully we can shock some people.
What players on Cerro Gordo should we keep an eye out for?
We have a handful of people that should make a good impact on our season such as me at slot receiver and safety and also running back and middle linebacker Brady Greenwood, running back and defensive back John Conner and our offensive and defensive lineman Dylan Upton
What does it mean to you that this is your last season of high school football?
It is sad, i’m going to miss playing with the kids I have grown up with but hopefully we capitalize on the amount of skills we have this year and make it a good one.
