So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams
Jake Arthurs Wheaton W South Class of 2019 5'10 185
COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE
Jake Arthurs is part of the talented youth movement at the Wheaton Warrenville South program. At running back he shows great talent by finding the gap and reaching the second level of speed. Really impressed with his ability at defense, gets to the ball carrier quickly and makes the tackle. Junior year will be a growing year for Arthurs to see what definite spot he can play at.
Jake Arthurs what schools have you been talking to?
My main focus has been with Northwestern, that’s been my goal since I was a little kid. I’ve been talking with coaches there since freshman year, at both summer camps and when the recruiting coaches come to WWS. Ive talked to Indiana State at a few summer camps and I’ve also talked with some lower D2 & D3 schools
What does Wheaton Warrenville South football mean to you?
Wheaton Warrenville South football has meant everything to me, literally since birth. I’ve been around WWS football every year of my life. When I was born, my brother Chris played there, my other brother Zach played there and won a state championship, my brother nick just finished playing there, and my dad has coached there for around 14 years. So Orange and Black pretty much runs in my blood! I have put varsity football at WWS on a very high pedestal all my life and I am very excited to continue the tradition and Arthurs Legacy there
What should college coaches know about you?
College coaches should know that I’m a great person on and off the field. I’m a hard worker in the classroom, the weight room, and on the field. I have a 3.8 GPA. And I’m a natural leader and good teammate to my teammates on the team
What will you miss most about the Dupage Valley Conference?
Honestly, The tradition. I’ve grown up watching WWS be apart of the DVC so I pretty much associated WWS with the DVC for years. I’m going to miss the Dominance of the DVC, if you will. Don’t get me wrong, everyone is well aware that the DuKane Conference is going to be as tough, if not more tough than the DVC. But the DVC was well-known throughout Illinois. People knew how dominant that conference was and I’ll just miss that aspect of it. But the new conference this year is going to be very tough, and I’m sure within a short amount of time, it will develop a similar reputation as the DVC held.
What position do you feel most comfortable with?
I feel most comfortable Running Back. I’ve been playing RB and Strong Safety since freshman year. And this year my coaches are wanting me to play RB and Sam Linebacker, which is perfectly fine, I’m excited to play LB. I’m just not as comfortable with LB just yet, because it’s so new to be. But in all, I love playing Running Back, it’s been my favorite position since I was little
What goal do you have for yourself this season?
This season I have two Main goals. The first, I want to be “the guy” in Wheaton, if you will. I want to be The Guy that, when we’re down by 3 late in the fourth quarter, everyone in the crowd knows that Jake Arthurs is getting the ball Or everyone knows that Arthurs is going to make the big play. The second goal I have is to bring the tradition back to my school. My school IS still one of the best football programs in the state of Illinois, in my opinion. Despite our recent struggles these past few years, we’ve had great years of dominance and victory, and it’s my personal and our team goal to bring that back to WWS
