So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams
James Estes Class of 2019 OL 6'2 275 Burlington Central
COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE
Estes is one of the toughest players for the Class of 2019. Knocks defenders on their ass and plays with a high intensity unlike any OL, Add to the fact that he is working with one of the best offensive line coaches in the state now.
James Estes what schools have you been talking to?
I have been talking to schools from all levels. I am talking to the Ivy League schools such as Columbia, Brown, and Cornell. I’ve also talked to some other high academic institutions such as Georgetown, Davidson, and Illinois State. I am talking to some D2 schools such as Wayne State, Winona State, and Concordia of Saint Paul. I have been in contact with many D3 schools such as Washington University, Augustana, Kenyon, Bowdoin, and Carroll just to name a few.
Favorite memory from last season?
At St. Edward’s last year, my favorite memory was when we beat Wheaton Academy on a game winning drive with 30 seconds left. At 5-4, we became playoff eligible. I’ll never forget that game for the rest of my life. That was probably my favorite football memory of all time
What do you like about playing on the offensive line?
There is nothing like driving a D-lineman from point A to point B against his will. I love imposing my will on the defense every single play. Plus, what’s not to like about having eating contests with your fellow linemen? In all seriousness, the bond between offensive linemen is something that is unexplainable. I love being with my guys (day in and day out) grinding for one goal.
Now at Burlington you guys hired some great line coaches... How has that been so far?
Playing under Coach Sabo and Coach Yos has been awesome. There are so many great things to say about them but we would be here all day. I love the way they have been building a culture within the offensive line since the beginning. They understand that it takes culture and chemistry to build a successful o-line unit. I also love the fact that they truly care about each one of us and our success. It’s not just on the field. They treat us like their kids and I am extremely appreciative of them for that. Both Coach Sabo and Coach Yos are great teachers. That is why I go work with them at FIST FOOTBALL ACADEMY in Elmhurst on Sundays. The technique they teach is second to none. I really enjoy how they have improved my performance as a whole. I can’t wait for this season
What should college coaches know about you?
College coaches should know that I am the hardest working kid in the country. I started freshman year at 139 pounds. After that season, I decided to change my body. Now at 275 pounds, I bench 405, squat 535, and deadlift 545. I take pride in everything I do. I will give 100% at every play, test, workout, etc. I love my team and I will die for my brothers on that field.
What motivates a James Estes?
What motivates me are the people who say I can’t do something. People have always told me why I could not achieve my dreams. I actually have a list of quotes that people have said about me on my wall at home. As I like to say, I am in the business of proving people wrong. That’s where my work ethic comes from
