So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams
Michael Gargiulo Class of 2019 WR 5'11 155 Deerfield
COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE
Michael is one of the best route runners in the state of Illinois for the class of 2019. Doesnt break routes early and is that WR that gives a QB a safe bet.
Michael Gargiulo what schools have you been talking to?
I have been talking to Indiana, University of Indianapolis, Clarke University, and Robert Morris University Illinois.
What should college coaches know about you?
College Coaches should know that I was on the Freshman B team with minimal playing time. Through my dedication, hard work and coaching I improved to be a two way starter my Junior Year on Varsity. A few of my best attributes are my route running and catching ability. I always seem to find a way to find the open space and make plays.
How does Deerfield football look this season?
Deerfield Football looks great this year through the culture we’ve built in the weight room and on the field. Even though we lost multiple starters from last year, we know we can rely on our culture we have built and through our Quarterback who got a few games under his belt only as a sophomore while our starter was out with a knee injury.
Favorite memory from last season?
Beating Maine West in a double overtime game. We were down 10 points with under 4 minutes left and our season was on the line. Maine West was undefeated in conference and beating them led to us having a playoff berth and sharing the conference title between Highland Park and Maine West.
Favorite route to run?
The Zero or “Go” route. On the route I get to apply my speed to beat the corners.
Toughest defensive back you have faced?
Noah Spitz from Highland Park. He was a very physical defender who knew how to get off blocks and chop tackle. I loved competing with him though.
Give me one Deerfield player that college coaches might not know but need to know?
Ethan Saks, an inside linebacker for us. He is very strong and physical. He can tackle anyone in the state 1 on 1.
