So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.

Gabe Hatfill Cumberland QB Class of 2019 6'5 200

COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE

Gabe Hatfill is one of my top risers for QB in the state of Illinois. Great arm and throws with great touch on the ball. Yes he is a small school QB, but again he has the natural skills to be special for the Class of 2019.

Gabe Hatfill what would you like college coaches to know about you?

I'm a hard worker and I hate losing but I have learned a lot over the years from my losing. I'm not afraid to take blame if I make a mistake and absolutely love the game of football. I work just as hard in the off season on my game as I do during the football season. I'll do whatever it takes to win.

What does Cumberland Football mean to you?

I look at my teammates as part of my extended family. Their like the brothers I've never had. Cumberland Football is what brings our small community together on Friday nights and its my favorite time of the year, running out on the field. We went 8-3 last year and have a lot of weapons coming back. Cumberland Football is on the rise!

Favorite memory from last season?

I have several. Going 7-3 in the regular season was awesome. We set a school record for wins and was able to avenge a prior loss in the first round of the playoffs against Decatur LSA. Hosting a home playoff game for only the 2nd time in over 50 years of Cumberland Football was very special also.

What do you like about playing QB?

I like the challenge and opportunity of being the General on the field. I love look over the defense and know what plays will be able to work against them. It's kind of like being in a chess match. Always trying to out maneuver the other.

Last year you guys lost to Red Hill, How has that loss motivated you guys for this coming season?

That loss was grueling for us. To lose a playoff game like that on our home field is what has been my biggest motivation in the off season to work harder and be better prepared for my senior year. We don't want that to happen again.

Game you are most looking forward to this upcoming season?

I'm not one to be looking to far ahead, I like to be prepared every week for our opponent. All games will be very important to me this year but I got to say I sure would like to get the chance to see Red Hill again.

Name me a Cumberland Player to keep an eye out for this upcoming season?

We have a lot of really good players coming back from last years team like Zach Wolke, Connor Butler, Myles Gerhardt, and Eli Buchanan but I think our Offensive left tackle Dayton Mitchell is one to keep an eye on. He has good size and great footwork and did a great job protecting my back last year. He was a unanimous 1st team All-Conference.
