So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams.
Luci Martino Elmwood Park Class Of 2019 5'11 247 DL/FB/ER
COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE
Luciano is a tank, he is that player you want on your team as a high school coach. Tough nosed kid, that plays to the whistle and makes your whole team better for it.
Luciano Martino What does Elmwood Park football mean to you?
Elmwood Park Football has meant so much to me while growing up because my brothers and I played for the feeder youth team and I have grown up watching the High schoolers and it kind of feels like a dream. I used to look up to the players in High School football so I want the younger kids in the youth programs to look at me as a role model.
What would you say to a 8th grader or someone intrested in playing Elmwood Park Football?
I would say to just keep following your dreams and really don’t slack off in the off-season. Definitely do not treat people wrongly on your team because those are your brothers 4 years straight grinding with the boys on and off the field, they are your family.
What was one of your favorite memories from last season?
A few of my favorite memories from last season were when we were playing ridgewood. We are down 9-0 at halftime but in the shed (our halftime room) the captain of our team stood up and said some very meaningful things and we all came together and out performance in the second half was outstanding. We never gave up. We came out 32-9 as the final. It meant a lot to me because I really noticed that they are my brothers and they will have my back no matter what.
What have you been trying to improve in your game for the offseason?
This off-season I have been working on my speed and my explosiveness. I have been training with itrainathletics and have been making great progress.
Who is one Elmwood park player that college coaches should take a look at from your team?
Michael Stranski. This kid is a great athlete. He plays quarterback and is the one kid that really is a dream chaser. He has a mission and wants to accomplish his mission.
What would you like college coaches to know about you?
College coaches should know that I am a genuinely nice person and I love helping people. I am a character, but a great character.
What does football mean to you?
Football is my life. It has taught me how to be a disciplined boy and be the best man I can be. It is a stress reliever and it became the best habit I could’ve made. I have been around football my whole life and it has became my life, my family.
