COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE

Drew Jenkins is a Class of 2020 WR that can block, and can take on the short routes. For a Sophomore WR playing on Varsity that is a thing very rarely seen, I will be excited to see what this young man does in his last two seasons.

Drew Jenkins whats schools have you been talking to?

Lately I’ve just been in the initial phase of talking with schools and coaches. I’m doing everything to reach out to coaches and start visiting high academic and athletic schools but I have also been in contact with some D3 schools

What is one thing that you would like college coaches to know about you?

I would like college coaches to know that I am determine and persistent in everything I do from academics, to athletics, to community service. I believe that with myself being coachable and having a strong work ethic to achieve all of my goals helps myself to stand it from other recruits

Favorite memory from last season ?

My favorite memory from last season was beating CL South as a team which made it 2 years in a row which hasn’t happened in about 20 years which was a great moment for my team and I

How is Crystal Lake Central looking for this upcoming season?

As a team I think we have a lot of great chemistry within the upcoming seniors, juniors, and sophomores. We are going to have a lot of young players out on the field but I think we have all the right tools for a good season. We have also had a whole new strength, speed, and agility program and we’ve been seeing some serious growth with all of our players because of this. As long as we continue to have a core group of kids who stay committed and we work hard over the off season I think we can do just as good as last season or even better

What game are looking forward to this season?

Oh man I am EXTREMELY PUMPED for our opening game against Prairie Ridge and I know my coaches and teammates feel the same way. Every night before going to bed I imagine the game and mentally picture what I need to do in order to be successful. We have been training for hours every single day so that when we get out on the field against them we can prove we have what it takes and surprise everyone with what we can do

What is one thing you are trying to improve in your game?

The biggest thing I’ve been working on is my speed and footwork with ladder and cone drills, running hills, improving flexibility and obviously improving my leg strength and explosiveness which I’ve been doing all with my personal trainer along with some speed training with Central. Along with this I have been working everyday to perfect my craft of route running, creating separating, and catching on my own and with Midwest Boom.

Is there one position that you would like to play, that the other coaches would say no to?

Besides the offensive line, for obvious reasons, I believe my coaches would play me anywhere necessary, or that I would like to play, because I’ve been training to be a versatile athlete that can play anywhere on the field when asked. If I had to pick I would prefer wide/slot receiver because I just simply love to catch footballs and compete against dbs

What Motivates a Drew Jenkins?

My biggest motivation is knowing that no one else believes I have what it takes to be a D1 player. They don’t understand how much work I put into training and in the classroom to give myself the opportunity to play in college. The more people that sleep on me and doubt me, the harder I work. There are plenty of athletes out there who may be faster, stronger, or bigger than me but something I can control is my work ethic, and I will outwork you. Period.
