2019 Hall's Anthony Buchanan Athlete Chats with Coach Big Pete

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect for their roles on their respective teams.

Hall's Anthony Buchanan RB/DB Class of 2019 5'10 180

COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE

Anthony plays with intensity and great on field vision which allows him to make big plays for the Hall Red Devils. Game film doesn't do him justice, he plays fast and makes great reads on defense

Anthony Buchanan what schools have shown interest in you so far?

No schools have reached out to me yet but I plan on contacting schools within this next month

What does Hall football mean to you?

Hall football has a huge history behind it. Hall football is playoff football. It was great overcoming the failure we encountered my sophomore year of not making it to the playoffs. We made a huge bounce back this season keeping the tradition of hall ball together. Hall football is playoff football.

What is one thing that you need to improve in your game?

There is always room for improvements. I definitely lack in explosiveness among other running backs. I have increased my speed over the years and I plan on getting faster and more explosive for my senior season. Despite the surgery I had on my thumb I will not be able to preform Olympic lifts (such as cleans and deadlifts) until the 6month period is over witch will be in June, when I am fully recovered. Instead I will have to work around this downfall this offseason and preform other lifts to help me get the speed and explosiveness I desire.

Three Rivers Conference (Two Divisions) really had produced some talent, Why do you think that is?

We have always referred to our conference as one of the hardest in the state. There is definitely a ton of talent in this conference from the stat sheets to actually playing against some of these players in our conference. Just like myself I have gotten very into the sport and trying to make it to the next level I believe a lot of the talent players in the conference are trying to accomplish the same thing and that’s were everyone becomes very competitive.

One of my favorite visits last year was Hall, you have a very strong work ethic from what I saw. Where do you get your drive?

When I came in as a freshman being able to play on the varsity as a freshman was a huge eye opener. The senior running-back my freshman year was an All-Stater. He was a very athletic and talented on the field and in the weight room. I always had the drive in me to be as good as him. He taught me a lot of stuff my freshman year that I still use on the field to this day. Ever sense that class graduated my teammates and myself knew we had big shoes to fill our sophomore year. We didn’t want to let the community down because we were a “young” class on the varsity. Still to this day that class and players will get brought up and I feel like that still drives us. There is always competition on our team to get each and everyone of us better. That also makes me want to play to the best of my ability, so that I can hopefully impact some of the younger classes at my school to look up to me and want to take over when I graduate. Just like I did to the seniors my freshman year.

What is one thing you want college coaches to know about you?

I want collage coaches to know that you won’t find a guy that will work harder than me. I push myself in every aspect of this sport. I played 5 games this year with a torn thumb ligament just because I love this sport the doctors highly discouraged it, but I did it for my team, I couldn’t let them down. I fought threw all that pain for my teammates, my coaches, and the fans. I am willing to put the work in to play at the highest level. I just need one coach to give me a shot and take my word that I will do whatever it takes to compete in collage and be successful. I can count of one hand the number of workouts I missed before I had my surgery.

Name one player on Hall that people need to take a look at for 2018?

We have a bunch of talent in my senior class. Take a hug look at James Mautino this kid had a huge junior year retuning the ball I don’t think there is anyone in the state that can return a kickoff or punt better than James. College coaches should keep an eye out for this kid. He also does a great job at the receiver spot. Just take a look at his highlights and you will know what I’m talking about. Speed and explosiveness he’s got it all.
