Great Talk With Class of 2018 Nazareth's LB Eduardo Gonzales- Talking Naz Football, Recruiting

So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know, but you should respect for their roles on their respective teams

Eduardo Gonzales 6'2 210 LB Class of 2018 TWITTER

Eduardo is one of the best linebackers in the state of Illinois, Field IQ and Athleticism make him special. Intangibles are what make him special his drive and high character are what make him a cant miss.

So Eduardo Gonzales what schools have you been talking to?

I’ve been talking to a few from every level, NAIA to Division 1. I’ve talked to a few ivy leagues such as Columbia and Lehigh as well.

What is one thing that college coaches need to know about you?

I’m versatile, athletic and got a lot to bring. I believe I’m more of an athlete on defense, I can play almost any position. This year I’m primarily playing on the defensive line rather than linebacker. I’m still able to play linebacker and I’m not afraid to drop deep and play safety as well. I’ll adjust to what ever position the team needs me for and work hard to master my craft at that specific position

What is one thing that motivates you?

I have a lot of things in my life that motivate me but my number one is my mom. My mom has always sacrificed so much for me since I could remember. In fact the reason I chose #6 as my number was because it’s my moms birthday and a way to honor her on the field. This past spring she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and without the game of football I do not know how I would’ve handled adversity. I didn’t think we’d make it this far and I just plan to make her proud each game knowing how lucky I am that she’s healthy enough to be in those stands. When I feel or think I can’t go another rep or play, I see “Mom” written on my gloves and I think back to sitting next to her in the hospital while she was receiving chemo, and I find that extra strength to keep going. My mom is my why.

What does Nazareth Football mean to you?

To me Nazareth Football means family and tradition. Family a common term used today by most teams, but to us we live it. We got each other’s back on or off the field. Going back to my mom being diagnosed with cancer, I felt blessed to have the whole Nazareth football community having my back. One of my teammates even made wristbands supporting my mom. Each coach is like a father figure/big brother figure to us. We focus more on relationships and trust because ultimately that is more important than the Xs & Os, because on Friday night when we are all wearing that N together on our helmet, we know we are fighting for one another and got each other’s back. Nazareth Football is tradition. Being everyone’s homecoming game years ago to winning back to back state championships didn’t happen over night. Players who wore the jersey before us laid the foundation for what we have today. Every home game you can spot a few who return to watch what they help build, and I myself feel like owe it back to those because at the end of the day it’s bigger than just me.

What do you want to major in when you get to college?

I plan to major in mechanical engineering and air science

You, Devontee Dunn, Julian Love, Isaiah Lee , ETC are high character guys.. Why is that the reason for Nazareth Football? It’s us buying into what Coach Racki preaches to us. Being selfless and contributing for the team. I bought into it from seeing the older guys, Devonte and Julian all working hard and trusting the process. When we have shadows for our games I know they can sense that bond and themselves want to buy in as well to what we are trying to build here at naz, a brotherhood. Also each year during our summer camp we are blessed to have a leadership program. It really teaches us what football is all about. Not about the offers or having your picture in the newspaper but about each other and becoming better men. It has had a tremendous impact on my life and gives me the tools to be prepared for way beyond just football.
