Conversation With York 6'4 OL Gavin Honken Class Of 2024

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for lllinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Gavin Honken York OL Class of 2024 6'4 230

Gavin Honken how was your season?

It was really good. My York Dukes Sophomore team finished 9-0 and won the conference (West Suburban Conference - Illinois 8A). I felt that I improved a lot from week 1 to the end of the season and I’m excited to play varsity next year.

What does football mean to you?

Team + Competition - there is nothing better than going to battle with a group of teammates that have trained and practiced all year for the opportunity to compete

What do you like about playing in the trenches?

The game of football is won and lost in the trenches so there is no place I’d rather be. Offensive line is so unique because all five linemen have to work together in order to be successful and I really enjoy being a dominant part of the O-line group.

What was your favorite memory this season?

My team’s hard fought win over Glenbard West.

What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field?

Knowledge of the offense/game - playing offensive tackle I think it is really important to understand what the QB and RBs are trying to do on each play as that impacts how I should block

What part of your game do you plan on working on in the offseason?

Strength and size - I’ve been spending a lot of time in the weight room and have been seeing good results already but there is a lot more work to do

What would you like college coaches to know about you?

I am an extremely hard worker, a great teammate, and I love the game of football. I have been playing since 1st grade and look forward to the opportunity to play each year.
